01 / THE CONTEXT

The challenge.

An existing consumer web application needed development support across several improvements in an established codebase.

02 / MY CONTRIBUTION

Getting productive in an existing application

I ramped up on the application and worked with React, Relay, and GraphQL within the team's development process. The client highlighted my quick onboarding, communication, and contribution to the project.

Technology map: recorded tools grouped by responsibility.

My engineering perspective: what each approach helps solve, and what needs care.

React + Relay + GraphQL: work with the existing data model

I joined the application team and contributed within its established stack and development process. Relay and GraphQL connect interface data requirements to the API schema.

The trade-off: An established stack has conventions and constraints. Understanding them is part of contributing safely and quickly.

Onboarding: build context before broad changes

The client highlighted my quick onboarding and immediate contribution. Working within an existing product requires understanding behavior, team expectations, and the boundaries of each change.

The trade-off: A local improvement can disrupt assumptions elsewhere. Clear communication helps the team assess the change in context.
